What is a sand wedge?
Sand wedges are historically used from greenside bunkers and for short range shots from all lies. A wedge with a loft of 54°-56° is referred to as a sand wedge.

The sand wedge is useful on full shots to lower flying pitch shots around the greens as well as the score-saving bunker shot.
